Disaster Preparedness, Business Continuity and the Role of Insurance
A number of major players in the Insurance Industry are lining up to be part of the first Insurance Symposium being organized by the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce titled, “Disaster Mitigation in a New Climate: Business Continuity and Insurance”. The Chamber is partnering with members of the Insurance Council of saint Lucia, the SHLTA and a number of other organizations, to make this timely and important Symposium successful.
The purpose of this symposium is to educate the business community on the importance of having an effective Disaster Preparedness and Business Continuity Plan. Using Insurance to mitigate the risks is also extremely important if one wishes to rebound quickly after such a catastrophe. This is vital to limit the negative impacts when disaster strikes home or business.
Banks too have a lot at stake and it is hoped that they will work with their clients and the other industry actors, like insurance companies, contractors, engineers and regulators to improve the state of preparedness in this most vulnerable part of the world.
The Chamber has invited regional and national public and private sector players to take part in this vital conversation. Special invitations are being issued to the Air and Seaports Authority, the Ministry with responsibility for Infrastructure as well as the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) to be part of and contribute their insight and perspectives to the symposium.
Four thematic “Insurance Clinics” aimed at some key sectors will take place in the afternoon session, namely; Small Business, Public Sector/Public Utilities, Tourism and General Business. These clinics will focus on sector specific discussions with industry experts leading the conversation.
The Symposium “Disaster Mitigation in a New Climate: Business Continuity and Insurance” is scheduled for 8th May 2018 from 9:00 am-3:30 pm at the Finance Administrative Centre, Point Seraphine.
